SAILOR SHOP
LEROS, GREECE | 2023
In the capital of the island of Leros, in the area of Platanos, in a place that has remained closed in recent years, a new "Sailor" clothing and footwear shop was designed.
The primary objective of the owner was to create a shop that combines island style, traditional island architecture, elements nautical and all to be presented in a modern version.
A source of inspiration for architectural design and decor design was the name of the store.
They were chosen to create on the left side of the store, emphasizing the dynamic lines and the impression of movement, wavy masonry that develops at various heights, integrating within this area the deposition of clothes, shoes and separating the male sector from the female . The final shape of the masonry, shelves was based on the parametric design, covered with white glossy spatula concrete cement, emphasizing the plasticity of the shape and the calm of the white color.
Throughout the store there is an open top of wood in brown color creating a simulation of a "keel" of a wooden traditional caique that develops at different heights and with various inclinations creating the feeling of hovering. Its shape was created in a special software program of algorithms.
The cash register and the computer were placed in a built-in wavy construction and were covered with white cement mortar.
On the back of the furniture that was in the cash register were placed two old oars, illuminated by blue hidden light.
The materials used in the area are the raw wood, ropes, traditional oars, artificially robed wooden shutters, woods 'snakes', pebbles, creating an atmosphere of diversity and surprising customers.
Hand-crafted staples were built using 'snakes' combined with natural ropes and raw wood, creating a retro effect. We have supplied them with a rocky island, which after special treatment was used in the area.
In the background of the shop were placed artificially aged shutters that were placed in the test rooms and in combination with the door that leads to the warehouses of the store you give the feeling of the old island house façade.
Two benches were placed for placement of clothes and using them as a sample. For stool was made furniture that resembles a wooden board liner.
In the showcase, in order to give a sense of diversity and uniqueness, the ropes were placed on various slopes and a wooden ladder placed on them with clothes, accessories, hats, etc. The window was layered with white pebbles placed in blue surface giving the feel of the sea.
The illumination that is preferred for the interiors is the continuous repeating linear, which we incorporated into the wooden ceiling without being seen. In the wavy walls and in various recesses, hidden led lights were placed, while the reception was fitted with hanging Edison lamps floating on the wooden roof.
On the outside of the building and respecting the traditional architecture of the area was chosen, mild indirect illumination for the showcase that comes from a "dark" and direct from two recessed luminaires that create a narrow beam and thus illuminates the part of the building above the window.
