GM APARTMENT
LEROS, GREECE | 2013
This is a 110m2 floor apartment, built in 1993 on the island of Leros in the Dodecanese. The architectural study made by the company 2728studio concerns the complete renovation of the apartment in order to serve the needs of a young couple in relation to the rules imposed by the modern way of life.
The general layout of the apartment's premises was maintained in the existing situation, while an additional storage room was created (laundry).
The original floor was kept, plasterboard was laid on the roof, the ceiling of the living room was lined with wood and linear lamps were placed long and asymmetrical.
The main area of the residence consists of the living room, the dining room and the kitchen.
In the lounge-living room was placed an energy fireplace as it was a wish of the owners. The fireplace was integrated with the TV in a special construction on straight lines and was covered with a grayish tinting cement plaster. The recess next to the fireplace was covered with black, raw, thick sheet metal.
Between the dining room and the living room behind the laundry room was placed a parcel, which was covered with splintered marble plaster, a wall panel of Panelpiedra was placed on the wall, hidden storage areas for glass and drinks were created and covered with a mirror.
The kitchen area was redesigned from the beginning by changing layout and philosophy. A large island and many storage areas were created to meet the needs of the owners. The kitchen is open on both sides and has no hanging cabinets in addition to the food box. The cooking hobs are placed on the islet and the metal hood is suspended from the roof. The kitchen countertops are starron-colored in white, and the doors and cupboards are covered with splintered marble plaster. The dining room is made up of glass and wood and the chairs are in a classical style.
The radiators of the house were invested with a special construction made of Swedish wood with gaps between them to recirculate the warm air.
The bathroom was redesigned and changed. A large shower was created with a hydromassage system and a glass separator. Black sanitary ware and a special washbasin was placed on the wall. The walls were coated with an anthracite spatula concrete cement which combined with the hidden lighting create a minimal effect. Finally, the lighting design for the whole house was made by the 2728studio.
